4-Day North Iceland Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Akureyri & Drive to Húsavík

  • Arrive at Akureyri Airport (AEY) and pick up your rental car.
  • Take a scenic 1-hour drive to Húsavík, the whale-watching capital of Iceland.
  • Stroll through downtown Húsavík, visiting the Húsavík Whale Museum and the charming harbor.
  • Enjoy a coffee break at Húsavík Cape Hotel Café or Gamli Baukur, both offering cozy Nordic charm.
  • If time allows, visit the GeoSea Geothermal Baths, where you can soak in warm seawater with stunning ocean views.
  • Overnight in Húsavík.


Day 2: Waterfalls & Mývatn Geothermal Wonders

  • Start your morning with a drive to Goðafoss, the breathtaking "Waterfall of the Gods."
  • Continue south toward Lake Mývatn, a volcanic wonderland known for its surreal landscapes.
  • Explore Skútustaðagígar (pseudo-craters) and take in the unique scenery.

Day 4: Return to Akureyri & Departure

  • If time permits, explore the tranquil Eyjafjörður Fjord, with opportunities for hiking or a boat tour to Hrísey Island.
  • Visit the Beer Spa in Árskógssandur, where you can soak in warm beer-infused baths and sample local brews.
  • Drive back to Akureyri Airport (AEY) and drop off your rental car before departure.
